ICY ARCH 2025

Maria Yashenkova will present ICM ARCH at KazanForum: Young Architects and Designers Build Bridges of International Cooperation

Maria Yashenkova, Head of the Organising Committee of the International Congress of Young Architects and Designers (ICM ARCH), will speak at the XVI Kazan International Economic Forum ‘Russia - Islamic World: KazanForum’, which will take place from 13 to 18 May 2025 in Kazan. As part of a session for young diplomats, she will talk about the mission of the congress, which brings together professionals under the age of 42 to address global challenges through architecture and design.
ICM ARCH 2025, which will take place in Moscow in December, will be a key platform for strengthening the position of Russian architectural schools, supporting young professionals and developing international dialogue. Preparations for the congress include three stages in Russian cities: ‘Safe City’, ‘Sporty City’ and ‘Creative City’. These themes reflect the current challenges of urbanisation, climate and cultural heritage preservation. ‘Architecture speaks a universal language, turning ruins into points of growth and traditions into the basis for innovation,’ emphasises Maria Yashenkova. Building on the experience of previous years, when 72 countries applied for participation, ICM ARCH focuses on the restoration of destroyed territories, designing sustainable cities and integrating traditional methods into modern projects. Examples already exist: in Iraq and Syria young architects are restoring ancient mosques, in Indonesia they are creating tsunami-resistant houses, and in Uzbekistan the reconstruction of Shakhrisabz has increased the income of craftsmen by 70%.
The head of the ICM ARCH Organising Committee plans to invite KazanForum member countries to join the congress initiatives through cooperation with universities, support for monument restoration and the introduction of environmentally friendly technologies. ‘Every monument or smart mosque saved is a step towards dialogue and sustainability,’ she shares, citing successes in Turkey, where temporary housing modules with solar panels have become a typical solution for emergencies.
ICM ARCH's participation in KazanForum emphasises the role of architecture as a soft power tool that promotes trust and economic interaction.
