‘We don't just talk about healthy cities - we help to improve them,’ said Maria Yashenkova, head of the organising committee of the International Congress of Young Architects and Designers (ICM ARCH), at a working meeting with representatives of the St. Petersburg Committee for Science and Higher Education.
The discussion focused on the regional platform of the Congress, which in 2026 will turn the Northern Capital into an epicentre of innovative solutions for the Healthy City. ICM ARCH traditionally brings together young professionals from different countries, offering them a platform for joint work on the current challenges of urbanism. The focus is on an interdisciplinary approach, where architects, designers, ecologists, sociologists and technologists jointly develop projects aimed at solving specific problems of the regions: from creating a comfortable urban environment to the introduction of ‘green’ technologies and adaptation of historical territories for modern needs.
At the meeting, where Anna Stepanova, deputy chairman of the Committee for Science and Higher Education of St. Petersburg, was present, they discussed not just an event, but a real reset of approaches to urban planning.
Special emphasis was placed on international participation: negotiations with foreign experts and representatives of other regions are already underway. ‘We deliberately ask the Leningrad region and St. Petersburg to support the theme of healthy cities - these regions can become a very effective platform for the introduction of innovations - there is a unique combination of historical heritage, natural resources and advanced technologies and attention to creativity’, - noted the organisers of ICM ARCH.
The congress programme includes workshops, panel discussions and hackathons, where participants will work on real cases: from revitalisation of industrial zones to creation of inclusive spaces. Special attention is paid to young people - students and novice professionals who will be able to propose their ideas and receive support for their implementation.
Recall that the II International Congress of Young Architects and Designers will be held in December this year in Moscow.
